Collaborative Law: A Unique Approach to Family Law

Are you a Pennsylvania spouse seeking an amicable divorce? Does your growing uncertainty about life after divorce require the services of a skilled, caring family law professional? Our professionals at Iwanyshyn & Associates are here to help. We want long-term happiness for all of our clients and children.

Our unique approach to collaborative family law has worked for people for more than 30 years. It has been many years since the life of our director and founder — Deborah Iwanyshyn — was forever changed by a devastating divorce experience. We do not want you to have to endure a similar ordeal.

The experience of our executive staff was that of a modified-collaborative divorce — a much more amicable experience. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.

Citizens of the counties of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland have benefited from our approach to family law and collaborative divorce. Iwanyshyn & Associates stands ready to sensitively assist you with versatility, compassion, leadership, and managerial excellence from mediation to cooperation to trial and everything in between.

Collaborative law is a relatively new approach to resolving family law issues. In collaborative law, each spouse hires an attorney. These attorneys agree that they will work only towards a settlement, and will not litigate the matter. If the divorcing spouses are unable to reach a settlement, each attorney would withdraw from the case, and each spouse would have to find a new lawyer. In collaborative law, the parties agree to conduct respectful negotiations in good faith. The overriding goal is to negotiate towards a resolution that each party finds favorable. Collaborative law looks to provide a less contentious and less adversarial process in divorce. Collaborative law may be more creative, and less destructive than divorce litigation.

We Take Each Case Personally — If divorce mediation is an approach you may want to explore, our Pittsburgh law firm's founder has more than 100 hours of mediation training. We have successfully mediated disputes for the Allegheny County Child Custody Program, the U.S. Postal Service, and private individuals, and can refer you to a large pool of court-approved mediators if situations warrant.

Fair, Equitable Resolution without Drama

We approach each divorce case by encouraging the fair and equitable resolution of all financial, support and custody issues. It is essential that you be provided with every piece of information that you can use so you are completely knowledgeable when it comes to assets, liabilities, and incomes (actual or computed) of all parties concerned. Having this information is the best way for you to fully understand your situation and make truly informed decisions on every aspect of the dissolution of your marriage.

Obtaining full knowledge of assets, however, sometimes requires more than just asking your spouse, or his or her legal representative, especially when significant assets or a closely held business or partnership is involved. In divorce, an investigative process called forensic accounting might be necessary to reveal concealed assets or value.

Most law firms need to involve a separate expert regarding financial matters. However, at Iwanyshyn & Associates, we are different. We are able to complete all forensic accounting in-house. This means we have more control over finding the information we need to best serve you, which can save you money in the long run. Issues of business valuation, however, are referred to a very experienced and knowledgeable expert witness who can testify on your behalf. If you live in Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Washington, Fayette, Westmoreland, or Armstrong County, call us today for fierce legal representation and legal guidance.
